The 20s haven’t got off to the flying start we hoped. But that doesn’t mean to say there isn’t room for optimism as we move towards 2021. One way to achieve this is to consider your interior design, especially if it’s been some time since you decorated your home. From a fresh coat of paint to some snazzy new tiles, such details can make a huge difference.

Whether you’re looking to make your property more attractive to renters, or simply fancy sprucing up your own humble abode, here’s our interior design guide 2021 to give you some ideas of what to look forward to.

1. Georgian Front Doors

interior design trends 2021

Ok, so a front door isn’t technically an interior feature, but given it’s the first thing your buyers or visitors will interact with, it’s worth getting right. Your front door sets the tone of what to expect inside your property, and for 2021 we’re predicting a return to the glassic Georgian and Victorian style front doors.

This style of door is carefully crafted, adding wonderful charm and character into the look of your home. Compared with uPVC doors, traditional front doors allow for a pop of colour too, which will add some much-needed brightness as we head further into the 20s.

The appearance of your front door can add as much as £4,000 on the value of your home making it well worth considering, if not for the potential profit you could make if you decide to sell your property anytime soon.

2. Jewel Toned Kitchens

While there’s always a place for neutrals in the kitchen, we’re predicting a sway towards more jewel toned colours in 2021. From emerald green to sapphire blue, switching up your kitchen cabinet colours can really inject some personality into your home.

Paired with rustic features such as wood or exposed brick, jewel colours can make an impact on bland spaces. Be sure to balance any such colours with lighter colours elsewhere in your decor. It can also help to flood the room with natural light as much as possible, especially if you want to use darker colours in a north facing room.

3. Spa-Like Bathrooms

2021 bathroom design

2021 will likely see a continuation of working from home. Added to the chaotic start of the decade we’ve all experienced, it’s clear self care is more of a priority than ever before. We predict this trend will be reflected in the way we redesign our bathrooms, especially as we are now spending more time indoors than ever before.

Cue floating sinks, marble tiles, rainwater showers and built-in cabinets. Even if you are working on a tight budget, it’s still possible to incorporate elements of spa luxury into your bathroom. This follows on the trend we’ve seen in recent years that have seen bathrooms go from a functional room of the house to a place that offers much relaxation. If you have the room for it, a stand alone tub is well worth the investment.

4. Plants… Lots Of Plants!

The need to bring the outside in has never been more important. Indoor plants have always been a trend to some degree. But as we move into 2021, plants will take more of a centre stage rather than remaining in the background. Plants offer many benefits including calming stress and anxiety, as well purifying the air.

The likes of monstera deliciosa, dracaena, philodendron green, spathiphyllum and the humble cactus will all start to feature much more in our homes. They are small enough to place in any room, though work particularly well in living rooms or bedrooms.
